Thank God no matter what happens.
This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.
1 Thessalonians 5: 18 The Message
Greetings,
November is major month in the Church calendar. It begins with saints and concludes by setting out on the journey to Christmas. In between are Armistice Day (Veterans’ Day/Remembrance Day), and Thanksgiving.
Commemorations of the battle dead and battle wounded, take place on and around November 11th. They are acts of remembrance for those killed or critically injured by war since 1914 (“the war to end all wars”). At the annual service held at the Royal Albert Hall, each British and Dominion life lost is marked with a falling poppy petal. 1.5 million fall. 1,500,000 scarlet petals pleading for peace.
Then there’s all the other nationals in the same, and different, conflicts …
God pleads for peace!
God’s favourite November event is Thanksgiving! The reunions, the reaching out to the hungry and lonely, the giving of thanks. Appreciation for Earth’s Bounty, appreciation for one another, delight God. They prove that we are noticing Creation’ goodness; that God’s abundant blessings aren’t all buried under our worldly angst.
AND gratitude is good for us. Brother David Steindl-Rast reminds us that,
"It is not happiness that makes us grateful. It's gratefulness that makes us happy."
Giving thanks promotes wellbeing. So, this Thanksgiving, celebrate as much as you can!
It will do you and God the world of good!
Deepest Blessings,
Brenda
